In high school, I got involved in SOČka (High School Professional Activity). I spent every Friday afternoon at school working on educational content and platforms. I managed to win the best project in the school and region in the education category. I also participated in the national round, where a memory game for small children with forest animal patterns won over my educational platform... That's life.
In 2012, three classmates from STU FEI (Miroslav Reiter, Ľudovít Kovačovič, Mário Kašuba) founded IT Academy. We wanted to create an online educational platform (e-learning) that would allow convenient learning anytime, 24/7, from anywhere, whether at home or in the office. The market was not yet ready for this, so we started offering traditional classroom courses. We started at the InQb technology incubator at the Slovak University of Technology. So it was a typical startup.
We gradually expanded our course offerings to over 500 different classroom courses and gained the trust of our first 3,000 students and companies. We launched our first e-learning platform on the Moodle LMS system. We regularly organized free training courses and seminars in cooperation with the STU incubator. We created a huge amount of our own educational material, such as examples, manuals, certificates, and practical exercises. We ran a campaign on Zľavomat, where we sold almost 100 courses. At that time, Zlavomat was a company based in the hallway opposite us. When we came to inquire about selling courses through their portal, their first reaction was: that's unsellable... And then we set a sales record in the education and courses category. We also hired additional instructors, some of whom came directly to the company to ask if we were looking for instructors. Ľudovít Kovačovič left us and went his own way, but we are still in touch.
We acquired larger premises, and almost half of the second floor belonged to us at STU. We obtained accreditation from the Ministry of Education for our classroom courses. We also managed to obtain a number of international certificates and certifications. We trained another 3,000+ students and companies. We regularly went to train companies throughout Slovakia. We abandoned Moodle because it was almost unusable for our purposes. Our colleague and lecturer Jano undertook to program and create our own solution. We paid him an advance of €5,000-6,000, and the result was that he delivered nothing for three quarters of a year. So, as they say, the result was 0.000 nothing. In 2016, I submitted an e-learning project and we received a grant of €5,000 + we had to contribute €1,000 from our own resources. The company Javi, which was supposed to implement this project for us, literally bought a template for €60... Nothing at all came of our submitted requirements. So we were probably the only company to return the grant at that time. Launch of the first online courses with modern teaching methods. VITA Academy received awards for its innovative approach to education and support for digital literacy.
Between 2017 and 2021, we gradually divided up the training agenda. We established a separate company for online courses. We left the classroom courses at IT Academy. VITA was responsible for the online courses. In the end, we kept the name and brand VITA Academy. We found a proven supplier and created the first version of VITA.sk. We also managed to use funds from the SIEA creative voucher.
We are moving into our own premises in the Koloseo complex. Another dream come true. We have also set up a testing center for international certification exams.
Covid and its consequences
Celebration of the 10th anniversary. Launch of new programs focused on artificial intelligence, big data, and new technologies to prepare students for the future. We now have the 5th version of VITA.sk. The number of students has exceeded 5,000.
We began offering independent online educational programs with professional titles such as BBA, MBA, DBA, MPA, and MSc at VITA. We received an award for the best educational programs in the field of digital technologies. We are actively involved in educational programs organized by the Labor Office (Skills for the Labor Market, KOMPAS, REPAS, etc.). Deployment of the AI ChatBot MIRA when we are outside of working hours. We offer 550+ online courses.
VITA Academy continues to innovate and expand its course portfolio to reflect the latest trends in technology, management, and personal development, making it a leader in modern online education. We are now entering phase 7 and version VITA. I believe we will reach another milestone, which is 600 online courses.
